Mobile Lactate Testing · Calgary

Find your lactate thresholds. Train with clearer intensity.

Determine your lactate thresholds across progressive exercise stages, then receive practical guidance for training zones and intensity management.

Why lactate?

Stop treating every training zone like a guess.

Lactate testing helps show how your physiology changes as intensity rises. The useful part is the shape of the response and what it tells us about where different training work belongs.

01 · CURVE

See the response across intensities.

Repeated measurements during a progressive test create a profile rather than a single isolated value.

02 · THRESHOLDS

Identify meaningful transitions.

Interpret changes in the lactate curve alongside workload and heart rate to locate useful training landmarks.

03 · ZONES

Turn the data into training.

Use the profile to inform practical intensity guidance for easy, steady, threshold and higher-intensity work.

What you receive

See how your curve can improve with smart training.

A lactate curve is only useful if it changes how you train. The graph below shows the kind of shift repeated testing can reveal.

Illustrative lactate curve shift An earlier lactate profile in grey and a later improved profile in orange shifted to the right, showing more work completed before lactate rises sharply. Intensity / workload Blood lactate
Earlier profile Improved profile

Illustrative example: a rightward shift can reflect more work being completed before lactate rises sharply.

✓Your lactate response across the progressive test
✓Workload and heart-rate context for each testing stage
✓Interpretation of key transitions and lactate thresholds
✓A PDF report with results interpretation
✓A post-test consultation for training zones and intensity management
✓Practical guidance you can use in your next training block
How it works

Finger-prick testing to determine LT1 & LT2.

1. Book

Choose a testing time and share your training context.

2. Test

Complete progressive exercise stages while lactate is sampled between stages.

3. Analyze

Tempered reviews the curve together with pace, power or workload and heart rate.

4. Train

Use the interpretation to make intensity choices more deliberate.

Who it is for

Useful when the question is how hard?

Lactate testing can help both experienced athletes and newer athletes who want a stronger physiological basis for training intensity.

Runners refining training zones

Useful when threshold, tempo and easy work feel poorly defined or overly dependent on generic formulas.

Endurance athletes starting a build

Create a physiological baseline before a focused block and retest later to see how the curve changes.

Athletes balancing pace and heart rate

Add a physiological reference point when your usual metrics are giving mixed signals.

Coached athletes wanting deeper data

Use the test as an additional input to help refine the training process rather than replace coaching judgment.

FAQ

Common questions.

Is lactate testing the same as a VO₂ max test?

No. Tempered does not use a metabolic cart for this service. Lactate testing measures blood lactate across progressive exercise stages and uses that response to inform training intensity.

How long should I allow?

Plan for roughly two hours for the testing appointment. Analysis is completed after the session.

Do I need to be an elite athlete?

No. The test is useful whenever better intensity guidance would make your training more deliberate.

Should I retest?

Retesting can be useful after a meaningful training block when you want to see whether the lactate response and practical training landmarks have changed.
